Traditional grape varieties from the Douro Demarcated Region, planted in field blends.
Port wine from batches of very old wines with an average age of well over 50 years, aged over time in old oak barrels and vats. It comes from traditional vineyards in the Upper Douro with a wide variety of field blend grape varieties, whose ageing process adds concentration and aromas of great complexity.
‘My family has always been involved in viticulture and wine production in the Douro Superior. From an early age, our grandparents got us used to tasting very old Port wines, kept in our cellars and honed by time, reserved for family moments.
The oldest wine in this batch has enormous significance for me and was the one that most marked me out in the world of wine when I was eight years old. After my maternal grandfather died, my mother and her brothers shared the wine, as is tradition in the Douro, and the wines were also shared barrel by barrel, I was given about 120 bottles which, at the time the wine was bottled in 1972, had already aged in the cellar for about 70 years, which is about 120 years today. 10% of this blend is made with this very old family wine, the rest of the blend was small batches that I accompanied and made with traditional farmers, with an average age of well over 50 years.
Golden amber in colour with orange veins, it has an intense aroma of great complexity, with notes of dried fruit and spices, toasted almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, sultanas and a hint of pepper where subtle notes of orange blossom predominate.
On the palate it is rich and creamy, with a very present acidity that balances the natural sweetness, with a very persistent finish where you can savour all the aromatic notes, creating a truly unique experience with an aroma and flavour that will stay in your memory for many days.’
